New York - Winnipeg: the reason is the same
I like reading the NY Times newsletters. Not because I like NY. In fact, I've never been there. (Yet). I get a kick out of reading what hip things are going on in the big city. Like this blurb in the Friday UrbanEye
. Goes to show you that when it comes down to it, the reason people go out may be the same everywhere.
Think of it as an '80s teen-flick party sequence come to
life: Tomorrow night as many as 2,500 culturally astute
hipsters will converge at BAM for Takeover, an attempt to
open every one of its nooks and crannies to the public.
Among the attractions: five bands (including the local act
Dirty on Purpose and the Nashville punks Be Your Own Pet),
a half-dozen D.J.'s, four film series that range from the
adorable ("When Animals Hug") to the occasionally
inscrutable (Nicolas Winding Refn's "Pusher Trilogy"), art
by the likes of Leo Villareal and Robert Wilson, burlesque
acts, a clown, a magician and live video installations. Not
enough? Also $3 beer.
