Trinity Sessions 20 years later
"You people standing at the back, there's plenty of room on the dance floor. We won't be using that tonight."
With those words - more or less, it was 19 years ago - The Cowboy Junkies started their set at the Spectrum supporting their latest record The Trinity Sessions. Or was it the Pyramid already by then. The record was out on vinyl for about a year. CDs were quite new and during the set break, I was able to track down the band and their additional musicians to sign my disc. One of the Timmins guys looks at the disc and says it was the first time he has seen it.
Around this time, I was testing speakers at Gillam Sound. In the basement is where they kept the real expensive stuff. I give this disc to the sales guy and it starts playing. The bass goes so low that it shook the main floor. Another sales guy runs downstairs to find out what the heck was going on to make so much noise.
It still makes me laugh that a band so slo-core could cause a building to rumble and shake. That's the way it was back then. No one was expecting this.
