80s music

All Songs Considered on NPR has quite the round table discussion on "80s music - was it that bad?"

This started as a result of a recent survey on listener's favourite decade of music which resulted in the 80s never being selected.

Monitor Mix gets into this.
The first thing that comes to mind for me, when considering '80s music, is nostalgia.
It all starts with nostalgia or music that we grew up with. At the time, we liked what we liked. Listen to that music now ....

During any discussion of 80s music, if there is a generation difference in the mix then you are likely to get quite opposite views of some 80s songs. Listen to the discussion when they talk about Tears for Fears and especially GnR. Its a great listen. (and likely will get you going back to your 1980 CDs ... as I listen to Strange Advance right now).

Was the 80s my favourite year? Can't say that it was but look back into the archives here and you will find mentions of some great albums back then. Trinity Sessions from the Cowboy Junkies. Jennifer Warnes and Famous Blue Raincoat. Add in Spirit of Eden from Talk Talk. If there was one band that signaled the transition from 1980 to 1990, it was Talk Talk.
